Hello,

I can't seem to find detailed information on this setup and was wondering if I could get some help.

Current SetUp:

FMS 11 on an OSX 10.8 Machine that is bound to the Active Directory

Windows 2008 Domain Controller running Active Directory

Security Group with my user in it named FM

On FMS:

- in the server address I have the IP address of out Domain Controller

- in the entry point i have ou=users, dc=mydomainname.dom, dc=dom

- Windows authentication is on, domain admin username and password is entered.

Insite test database:

- Turned on FM network access and can log into the test database with a created full access user.

- I created a group using external authentication with the group name FM

When I attempt to log in I just receive the error: "The account and password you entered cannot be used to access this file. Please try again."

I tried using the domain\username and get the same response.

Am I missing a step??

Thank you for your help,

Justin

It was written a while ago, but it helped me.

One trick I remember is that you must set up the authentication order in the security settings in each file. If you are not set to use the authentication order then it won't work.

Basic problem here is that it sounds as if you're trying to set up External Server Authentication in the Directory Services tab of the Admin Console. That's the wrong place.

See the Security Tab in the Database Server configuration area. Select FileMaker and external server accounts option.

BTW, there is a later version of the Tech Brief cited by IdealData.

Also, be sure that the FMS machine is properly joined to the AD domain. Do this explicitly, not automatically. You have chosen to sue the single most difficult option possible: Macintosh OS FMS to Active Directory. So you need to follow the directions in the Tech Brief carefully.

Perhaps also see this FileMaker Security Blog entry:

The Authentication Order may or may not be relevant, depending on the ways Accounts are structured externally.
