Newbies xraven Posted June 12, 2001 Newbies Posted June 12, 2001 I need to build a database that will include molecular formulas. Does anyone know how to handle subscript and superscript characters in FileMaker?

Now I don't know if you are looking for something more than that. If you are, post back with more details okay? Hope this helps.
LiveOak Posted June 12, 2001 Posted June 12, 2001 Never thought about that one before. Hmmmmm. You might look for a font with built-in subscript numbers. You could also with some fiddling overlay two fields (one for letters and one for numbers) using mono spaced fonts and use calculations to replace numbers with blanks in the "Letter Part" field and letters with blanks in the "Number Part" field. If this is for organic compounds, I don't know how you will show rings! A third option is to have a repeating (or not) globals with all the numbers you need formated as subscripted. These could be copy and pasted under script control to "build" a formula text field. The script would be long and tedious, but it could be done. -bd
