Using a copy of the database file in a Runtime solution

Hi,

I'm creating a filemaker runtime solution.

Runtime name is: db_program.app

Database filename is: database_file.USR

My question:

It seems that both db_program.app and database_file.USR need to be kept together in the same folder created by Developer Utilities for the runtime solution to function and that the best way for the user to work is to create a copy of database file, which they could then put wherever they wanted (i.e. leaving database_file.USR untouched).

Is this correct? Are there any advantages/disadvantages to doing this?

Kind regards,

Kap

You can't move the .usr file and copies won't work.  You can, however, create a shortcut (Windows) or alias (Mac) of the app which the user can place wherever he/she likes.

I'm not sure what you mean by "copies won't work". I've created copies and they seem to be work fine.

Kind regards,

Kap

The runtime engine won't "see" copies in another location other than the same directory as itself.
