"This item cannot be modified here because it is already being modified in another window" in Filemaker Go

Ok, I'm stumped.

I have a script that on occasion, results in the following message in FileMaker Go:

"this item cannot be modified here because it is already being modified in another window"

Here's the catch:

1. I'm not using any portals

2. I'm not opening any new windows. (I only have one window open.)

3. I only see this when I bring my solution to FileMaker Go. I don't see this message when using FMP 12 Advanced on my desktop (Mac) with the exact same solution.

4. Also, when I open this solution on my iPhone, I don't get the error either. I only see this on the iPad, and I have the latest iPad Retina (iPad 4)

I've done searches which say you need to Commit the record before opening a new window, but again, I'm not opening any new windows, not using any portals, etc.

I am changing the layout in this script step, but I have many scripts that change the layout, and I've never seen this before. This solution has two tables and they have related fields, and I am switching from layouts within different tables, and using a Set Field step. (Just for fun, I tried adding a Commit record step before, after and both before/after going to the new layout of the different table and it didn't change anything.

I'm stumped. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

Did you ever find a solution to this issue?

I'm having the same problem with three different files and I can't figure it out.

Hi

I had this exact same message when someone clicked in a field to select something from that field and before going to a table to select their choice. It appears the cursor doesn't exit that particular field properly but I found a sort of workaround to it. I drew a box using the rectangle tool and added text to it saying "click here to confirm". The user then clicks that box which does nothing except make the user move the cursor out of the original field that throws up the error message and then allows them to select the button that goes to the table and layout they need. So far I have found this has worked but I think it may be a bug with FM and the TABS Tool. When I get more time I will investigate this. In the meantime I hope this trick might help.

Yes, I am having the same problems...

IOS 7.0.2

FM Go 12.0.8

As soon as I try and enter text in a field in browse mode I get error "This Item Cannot be modified here because it is already being modified in a different window"

I've tried using "close window" when I navigate from previous layout.

Not seeing your files or scripts, I can only repeat my suggestion above. Use the Script Debugger tool and go through the steps and follow what they are not doing.

Has any progress been made on this issue.  We recently deployed a solution (work orders for field technicians) and we're frequently getting this error, but with no consistent behavior.  We're really struggling to find the cause/solution.

I just started having this problem with one of my databases.  As with everyone else, it's only happening in FileMaker Go.

Lee: Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but since FM GO doesn't have a script debugger, I'm unclear how this would help identify the problem.

Thanks,

Nur
