The problem is this:  After running a script, I want to have the cursor return to a record in a long list of records IN THE SAME POSITION ON THE SCREEN.

IIUC, I'd guess that you are trying to return from a related record?

 

If so, read about GTRR (Go to Related Record) script step.

 

If something else, please provide some addition information about what your are trying to accomplish, and or attach a copy of your file.

An easy method to retain the current window state is to execute your script in a new window and close it on completion; easy, that is, unless it would cause conflicts (certain script triggers come to mind).
