in my database i store the photos in container fields and if i want to see all the pics stored i have to make a report on table view and each row is a record . 

but how to show the pictures in columns? something like a thumbnail grid maybe four , five columns? 

it this possible in filemaker ?

Try the columns options in the Printing tab of the Layout Setup dialog. You need a layout in your Pictures table and use in List view, not Table view.
