October 15, 201312 yr Newbies Hi there, I've built an invoicing database off of the supplied filemaker pro template and I'm trying to sort my portals through a category field that I define. By using the portal setup I sorted the portal records by that category variable...it seems to work fine and sorts them accordingly. However, when I then try and print out all of the portals into an actual invoice, it no longers takes this sorting into account and lists them as they were entered. Any hints how to keep them sorted? I admit I don't even know how I managed to make it this far. This is really my first attempt at filemaker pro and I don't really claim to understand it in the slightest. Let me know if there's anymore information I can provide though.
October 15, 201312 yr This topic comes up from time to time. Although you can print Portals, their real purpose is for viewing data of a related file. Creating a report in the current table is problematic and hard to make a report work and look the way you wish. It is recommended that you print your report in the Line Items Table. p.s I did a search of Google using this string site: fmforums.com printing portals which has a few of the topics I mentioned. Also, review your Help about Portals starting here http://fmhelp.filemaker.com/fmphelp_12/en/html/create_layout.9.29.html Edited October 15, 201312 yr by Lee Smith added links.
October 16, 201312 yr Author Newbies So I've been researching printing my report in the line items table for a little while and I just can't seem to find anything in the program that references this. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction for any documentation of this? Does this mean a pretty big overhaul of my current system?
October 16, 201312 yr You should be able to find plenty of information on this topic. Start with the example in your Example folder in the FMP 12 application. Do a search as before, only replace "printing portals" with "Invoices" i.e. site: fmforums.com Invoices, also this article Todd Geist Here might help you, even though it is written using FM11, it is still useful information. Cant remember if he provide an example file or not, but using the version 12 example should be about the same. HTH Lee
