How to link up to an external server with Filemaker Pro 12

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am currently using Filemaker Pro advanced 12.0v4 in OS Mavericks.

I am setting up a database system.

One of my requirements is - under a field i need to access a file that is saved in an external server (not Filemaker hosted).

Meaning to say, i input a report link under the field and upon clicking it, i get connected to the server and the file required.

How can I go about doing this?

I have the static ip address of this server and my iMac is running on Wifi.

Pls advise.

Thanks and Regards

Titano

(you should be using 12v5 on Mavericks)

What should happen?  Should be file be copied to the user's machine, should it be opened?

What type of file is it?

Hi,

Its actually a keynote presentation.

I have created a field container as 'Report Link'.

The presentations are saved in an external server  >>afp://static.ip.goes.here

Under the 'Report Link' field, I want to add the path/filename of a particular presentation which would direct me to the file with logon credentials.

For instance,

Accessing the server

afp://static.ip.goes here.

User and password screen appears.

Once logged on, can access file.

Now i need the same method while clicking the path/filename that is inputted on the 'Report Link' field from the same server

Hope I'm concise.

Kindy advise.
