Hello all,

I'm trying to embed videos from Vimeo into a filemaker layout using the Webviewer functionality using FMPro 13 Advanced. All my users are Mac based and have the latest flash player installed.

However, when the web viewer loads, I'm getting "Missing Plugin" errors.

Does filemaker support flash video?

I would have preferred to use HTML5, however, I can't get vimeo's HTML5 player to play video. When I attempt to play, I only get a black window and audio

Thanks for the help!

Which browser is your default one? I have much better experience with FF than Safari.

FF does not need an PDF viewer to display PDFs,

FF appears to work the same way for Windows and Mac.

This is the first example I was showing in my session Marvelous Optimizations at Pause On Error [x] London 2011. I already wrote about this optimization some time ago. It’s the one that led me to unveil the Marvelous Optimization Formula. You can find the original article here: FileMaker Script Execution Time Cut From 5 Hours To 6 Seconds
I simply took the example and added FM Bench Detective into it to be able to exactly measure and examine what happens in the slow and the optimized script. Now you can watch the result in this video recorded at Pause On Error.

The second example I was showing in my session Marvelous Optimizations at Pause On Error [x] London 2011 was the script for selecting Random Set of Records. I found this example in the FileMaker Knowledge Base and optimized it to run at least 158 times faster when selecting 10 random records out of 50,000.
This version of the example has FM Bench Detective script steps included to measure the original and the optimized script more precisely. Watch the video recorded at Pause On Error below to learn more details about this optimization.

I use jQuery and the jQueryUI slider widget to display a slider in FileMaker Pro (v17-17-18-19). Works fine but I also need to have it work on FileMaker Go, so I tried my luck on jQuery Mobile 1.4.5. The slider is working nicely on FileMaker Pro, but on FmGo 17, 18 or 19 it doesn't load, keeps displaying a spinning logo. When I publish the HTML page on a website and open it in Safari Mobile it works fine. Any help appreciated! See the example file: just downlaod it and open it on FMGo. The Webviewer and the HTML are displayed side by side.

I can ping my PDF document server from Terminal, I can connect to the PDF document server from all browsers apart from Safari, my default web browser is FireFox, I also tried to change to Chromium and Opera as the default web browser. WebViewer has the same symptoms as Safari, server not found.
$ ping -nc 1 document PING document (10.0.0.7): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 10.0.0.7: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.002 ms --- document ping statistics --- 1 packets transmitted, 1 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.002/0.002/0.002/0.000 ms FileMaker says ’Couldnot connect to the server.’

The issues is easily solved by creating a new MacOS X user, and log in to that user, however I would rather like to fix the current user not having to migrate all other application settings. Is there some dns cache specific to Web Viewer and Safari?

In October 2017 I presented two sessions at the German-speaking FileMaker Konferenz. My first session was focused on results of almost forty thousand performance tests our team had performed and evaluated to compare different versions of FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Server and the second one was focused on our recent great discovery of the impact of database structure on its performance. Now we have made the best parts of those sessions publicly available, so don’t hesitate and dive into the deep waters of FileMaker performance and I hope you'll find the videos useful.
