Preserving relationships when renaming databases

Featured Replies

In a solution where there are several databases all interlinked by relationships and you want to create a new version of that solution (with updated database names showing the version, is there an easy way to rename the various databases and keep the relationships intact?

Changing the names of the database is desired so that when migrating data (from old to new version).

Thanks.

The best option is the invest in the Developer Tool which allows you to rename files in solutions and it will automatically update all of the references to the renamed files in every files in the solution.

Hi Kurt:

Thanks for the quick reply. Actually, I didn't mean a runtime solution created by the Developer version but a solution that consists of several (multi-user)databases (and requires FileMaker).

I was browsing elswhere in the forums and came across the following topic under the :Makeing a Living" section (page 3 entitled "Updating Database") which seems to answer my question - unless it is outdated and FM Developer 5.5 can actually rename databases - in which case I will rush to the store ???-) immediately! Could you please clarify?

Below is the link for your reference.
