Using a portal to select a record to edit

Featured Replies

Hello

Can i use a portal to display all my clients from my table, and go to a client i choose from the portal?

I use a TabControl with two tabs. On the first tab i have all the information about my clients and on the second table i have a portal wtith a list of all my clients.

What i need is to select a client from my portal, and go to the first tab to view or edit the client i choose on the portal.

I´m starting with filemaker :-)

Thanks for your help

Research master detail.  Not saying this is the best way, but simply you'll need a second table occurrence to put a list (portal) on one tab panel and the details on the other tab.  Give the details tab panel a name in the inspector.  Put a button on the portal row that captures the pk ID, switches to the detail panel, performs a find.

GtRR?

Hi Eos, I should've been more specific.  In my specific instance of using this, if I use GTRR, it does take you to the right detail record, but it changes the found set (at least for me, probably doing something wrong), and if I use 'show all records in current found set' it changes the sort order.

~~and when you going to change your skill level to Expert?~~ :)
