Using Web Companion w/o a net conn. under OS X

I'm trying to view my web pages served by filemaker without any kind of network connection and I'm running into problems. This is no problem under Mac OS 9. I simply enter some static IP, launch filemaker, a browser, and type in the local static address. Everything runs well. However, I can't seem to get this to work under Mac OS X. The browser never manages to connect -- as soon as I plug in to my network, even still just accessing the localhost, it suddenly works.

Anyone know a work around?

I'd like to be able to work while I'm on the airplane, etc... (w/o switching back to OS 9)

Thanks!

Jeffrey

Hello Jeffery;

I do a similar thing to you whenever I need to 'test' my online solutions without connecting to the local LAN or the Internet. I use an Ethernet switch to connect my 'development' computer to a Mac computer and a WinTel computer for 'browsing' my solution. I use OS9 on my 'development' computer... never have tested OSX in your situation.

My Recommendation:

Get your hands on a small Ethernet switch or hub that you can connect to for 'testing' your online solution without connecting to the local LAN or the Internet. That way, your computer will connect to a 'network'. If you do this, you could also connect other computers that could 'browse' your web pages to see how the page appear. Maybe a Mac and WinTel computer.

Good Luck!

Bob

instead of typing in the dummy static ip, have you tried 127.0.0.1

that is the IP for the localhost

or if you are using IE, I think you can just type localhost in they address bar

I had this problem on my iBook under System 10.1.2 but not under 10.1 nor under 10.1.3 or 10.1.4. Are you using 10.1.2?? If so, I recommend updating and also update your WebCompanion to the current version.
