History records are added to contact records via a portal on the contact record.   The Create date is added through auto enter .  I need to generate a list of selected history entries in the History Table via the  portal, but only show the very latest entry for each contact, whenever it was entered.   

I don't understand your question, esp. the "generate a list via the portal" part. It's not a good policy to be laconic when asking.

If you want a list of all contacts, each with (only) their latest entry, you could produce it from the Contacts table, using a one row portal sorted in reverse chronological order to show the last entry.

Thanks for your reply.   You have stated my question so much better than I did.   And yes, that is exactly what I need.   I will try and phrase my questions better in the future.
