Calculation Problem

Featured Replies

Hello Team,

I hope this is the appropriate forum for this question.

My school is running FileMaker Pro Unlimited. We are using it for collecting survey data. Among other things...

One of our surveys has 32 questions, and each has a "Yes" or "No" answer. The surveys are entered online, and we are going to use FileMaker itself to produce the reports. That is, I'm not really concerned about displaying report information online at this time.

What we want is to see the totals for a found set. For example, we have 92 records. Each record has 32 entries/fields that are either a yes or no response to a question.

We need to see how many "yes" answers for question one, how many "no" answers for question one, how many "yes" answers for question two, how many "no" answers for question two, etc, etc. I sat down to set up the report to do this today, but quickly realized I don't have a clue how to approach it.

I'm assuming I need to somehow identify whether a response is a yes or not, then summarize the total by question field. However I'm also sure there has to be a better way than the one I'm thinking about which involved a separate summary field for every answer field. Or perhaps that is the only way to do it?

I'd appreciate any ideas on this I can get. I'd hate to get into this too far only to realize I'm attacking the problem from the wrong perspective.

Thanks.
