Improved Server-side Setup Process for Connecting to Outlook

If your FileMaker solution connects with Microsoft Outlook across a team, installing and authenticating a plug-in on individual user machines can add extra setup and maintenance.

With Outlook Manipulator server-side, you can move Outlook processes to FileMaker Server instead. Outlook Manipulator 8.0.2.0 makes this easier with a new client-less authentication process.

What Does Client-Less Authentication Change?

Previously, setting up a server-side Outlook Manipulator connection required the client-side plug-in as part of the Microsoft 365 authentication process.

With client-less authentication, you now can establish that connection through FileMaker Server without requiring Outlook Manipulator to be installed on an individual user’s machine for authentication.

The server-side plug-in still runs on FileMaker Server, but your users do not need Previously, setting up a server-side Outlook Manipulator connection required the client-side plug-in as part of the Microsoft 365 authentication process.

The server-side plug-in still runs on FileMaker Server, but your users do not need it installed locally to access Outlook processes handled through the server.

What Can You Do Server-Side?

Moving Outlook processing to FileMaker Server can help you centralize tasks that would otherwise depend on individual workstations.

For example, you can:

  • Push and pull emails, contacts, and calendar events.
  • Automate Outlook communications using FileMaker Server schedules and scripts.
  • Maintain an archive of email correspondence in FileMaker.
  • Import, search, and work with Outlook data from within FileMaker.

This approach can also make it easier to support teams using Windows, Mac, FileMaker Go, or WebDirect when those Outlook processes are handled through FileMaker Server.

Start with Working Examples

The updated Outlook Manipulator server-side demo file now demonstrates the client-less authentication process. Because the FileMaker file is unlocked, you can review the scripts and layouts and adapt them for your own solution.

You can also see the server-side approach in Core CRM Pro, our free unlocked FileMaker CRM template. Core CRM Pro includes Outlook Manipulator server-side scripts with client-less authentication, along with working examples for Outlook contacts and calendar events.

If you are learning the client-side integration, the free Connect FileMaker to Outlook course at Productive Computing University covers Outlook Classic and Outlook Remote, including authentication, the demo file, and working with Outlook data from FileMaker.

Whether you need Outlook integration on individual desktops or want to centralize processes through FileMaker Server, Outlook Manipulator gives you options for connecting FileMaker with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft 365.
