  1. “FM Starting Point_3_6_2024_41608PM.fp7” could not be created on this disk. Use a different name, make more room on the disk, unlock it or use a different disk. how do I fix it? running a Carlton Consulting custom made FM solution with FM Pro 16.0.5.500 on my MacBook Pro macOS Ventura 13.5.2 w/ 1GB HD
  2. Hi, I have been running FM Starting Point for many years now and it has always performed very well. Just lately though, it has begun crashing quite frequently at intermittent times. Sometimes while I am using it, other times when it is simply open but in the background. Here is my system: FileMaker Pro 13.0v5 for Mac FM Starting Point 2,1v8 MacOS v10.13.2 My Starting Point solution was customized by RCC and I have further tweaked it slightly as I learn my way around FileMaker. I have now learned that FM pro 13 is not compatible with MoacOS 10. Therefore I will have to buy the latest FM program v16. I am of the understanding that if I upgrade the FM Starting Point solution, I will lose all of the customization done to it to fit my business. So that is a non-starter. My question is: will FM 16 read my old FMSP 2.1v8 file? Thanks.
  3. Thanks Jonathan. No it's not that big of a deal. I just thought maybe there is a quick setting to change that may make it happen. Oh well.
  4. I am running the FM Starting Point solution 2.1v8 with FileMaker Pro 13.0v5. In the ToDo popup box there is a Due Date drop down box for a calendar date and also a Time selection box. When clicking on the Time box you have to manually enter a time with either am or pm. I am wondering if there is a way to have a wheel pop up when you click on the Time box. Then just be able to spin the wheel to the desired Time. Anybody know?
  5. Thanks Jonathon. I finally got it to work. I changed the email configuration in Preferences within FM Starting Point from "Email client" to "SMTP server" using my gmail account settings. Attachments are once again going out with their emails. Thanks! Don
  6. No error reports at all. Email goes sans attachment. How do I check and/or correct the path? Not using MBS as far as I know. Is that something I could add to take care of the problem?
  7. I am running a customized version of Starting Point using version 2.1v8 with FileMaker 13.0v5. For some reason, recently whenever I send an email with an attachment, the attachment never gets sent. The email goes but without the attachment. Any ideas how to fix it?
  8. Oops, forgot to update that. I am now using a Mac and I have recently upgraded to El Capitan but that is not a drop down available option. I am using FM Pro 13.
  9. FileMaker Pro 13.0v5
  10. I am running FM Starting Point 2.1v8. It has beenmen working great for me for several years. Now for some reason when I try to send an email with an attachment using the green plus, the attachment shows up in the attachment line but it doesn't get sent with the email. Any ideas how to fix?
  11. I know this might not be the best place for this advice, but you guys are so good at File Maker, I thought I should ask. I just got a new Apple Time Capsule and I know I need to do port forwarding to port 5003, but the instructions with the unit are terrible and port forwarding is tricky to begin with. Hopefully since File Maker is an Apple product, it can be done but we non-techies really need help with this one. Thanks Don
  12. I figured a couple of snips may help in understanding but I don't know how to use this forums gallery function. I have inserted links to Photobucket where you can see the snips. My Excel file has these column headers: http://s436.beta.photobucket.com/user/donl1150/media/Christmas/Excelheaders_zps8bfe057c.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0#/user/donl1150/media/Christmas/Excelheaders_zps8bfe057c.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0&_suid=135960071582709362443275070369 The FM Account tab looks like this: http://s436.beta.photobucket.com/user/donl1150/media/Christmas/Acconts_zps3269b529.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1#/user/donl1150/media/Christmas/Acconts_zps3269b529.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1&_suid=135960108441008007983257576132 The FM Contact tab looks like this: http://s436.beta.photobucket.com/user/donl1150/media/Christmas/Contacts_zpsd1cb8084.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2#/user/donl1150/media/Christmas/Contacts_zpsd1cb8084.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2&_suid=13596013216420035962000318688236 Does this help you in understanding?
  13. I have figured out how to import from Excel. I have imported the Account data to the Account table and also the Contact data to the Contact table. What is missing is the relationship link between the Account table and the Contact table so the correct contacts are with the correct accounts. Does that make sense?
  14. Each column has a heading...such as Company Name, Address, City, State, Zip, Phone, etc. Then each row contains the info making up that record. Not sure what you mean by dropping on the icon.
  15. I have an Excel spreadsheet with data such as Company Name, Address, City, State, Zip, Phone, web site, contact last name, first name, title, e-mail, phone, etc. Each row is one record. Obviously, there could be a lot of duplicate information as relates the Company data, if there are several employees from the same company. My FileMaker Solution has an Account tab with the account info and also a Contact tab with the contact info. There can be many Contacts for the same Account. How can I do an import to the FM solution so the Contacts are properly imported and related to the Accounts with which they belong? I am running FileMaker Pro 11 and also have FileMaker Go accessing it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Don
  16. Thanks. I sort of thought it would not work and you have confirmed.
  17. I am currently running a File Maker Pro 11 solution on my laptop and have been using FileMaker Go on my iPhone and iPad to access it while on the road for several years now. It works very well. Occasionally however, the laptop freezes up while I am gone and then FileMaker Go can't access it. I got to thinking that perhaps I could somehow run the whole thing on my NAS device which has never seemed to have stop working like the laptop does on occasion. The NAS is known as the Z: drive on my network. Is it possible to put the FileMaker Pro 11 program on the NAS and then access the solution with FileMaker Go? I don't fully understand networks and therefore am at a bit of a loss. Will the program run on the NAS? and if so, how do I get FileMaker Go to access the solution? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Don
  18. So it would be one table with these fields? first name last name school name church name address city state zip phone cust or pros ind sch or churh
  19. I am trying to understand the concept of one-one, one-many, many-many. This seems to be critical as you develop the structure of your database. I am not quite certain how far you take the concept….does each field need to be unique to that table? Here is an example. I have three types of customers….individuals, schools & churches. All have similarities, i.e. an address, city, state, zip, phone, etc. I also therefore have the same three types of PROSPECTIVE customers – those that I am hoping will become customers. Would I therefore create six tables to capture their unique data (name, address, city, state, zip, etc which is unique to that individual, church or school)? Or, would I create two tables for this data (one each for customers & prospects)? Or, lastly is it best to only have one table that had all of their unique data + one field with the variable data (customer or prospect)? Thanks Don
