  1. I finally figured this one out on my own and realized my mistake! The date formats on my View layout were set wrong, therefore giving me the incorrect information.
  2. Thanks for the advice, Goldraven, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. All the fields are coming from the matching portal relationship. Anyone else have any ideas?
  3. I am working with two related files: Employees, which contains all general information about the employees, and Job Entries, which contains all of the job-related information for each employee (contract dates and renewals, position titles, department, manager, etc.). In my Employee file, I have a layout called "Job Entry-Update" that contains a portal to view all related job entries for that employee and allows the creation of a new entry to record contract renewals or merit increases. The portal is based on a relationship called Job Entry with the related fields being Filename::Filename. This portal is set to allow creation of related records. This portal works great, however I wanted a layout in which the user could view the job entries for an employee in a descending chronological order and without the blank record at the top. Here's where the problem lies. I duplicated my relationship for the first portal and named it Job Entry View, but this relationship is set NOT to allow the creation of related records. My new layout "Job Entry-View" contains an identical portal as on the "Job Entry-Update" layout, with the portal relationship being set to Job Entry View. However, when I view my new layout with the "view-only" portal, the dates are incorrect, even though the record numbers from which the information is being pulled are the same. Take Jodi's file, for example. In the Job Entry-Update layout, the file shows one record (#41) with an Effective Date of 1/21/2001, a Start Date of 1/21/2001, and an End Date of 3/31/2001, and a second record (#88) with an Effective Date of 4/01/2001, a Start Date of 4/01/2001, and an End Date of 3/31/2002. But when I go to the Job Entry-View layout, the file shows the following for the two records: #41--Effective 1/01/2001, Start Date 1/01/2001, End Date 3/03/2001; #88--Effective 4/04/2001, Start Date 4/04/2001, End Date 3/03/2002. Somebody please help! Thanks.

  5. Thanks, Olive! I completely forgot about changing my fields to reflect the new relationship, but now it works like a charm! I tried your suggestion of using the same relationship for both portals, but I only saw a check box for "Allow deletion of portal records" in the Portal Setup box. The check box to "Allow creation of related records" is found in the Define Relationship dialog box, and this would affect both portals. That's why I tried the duplicated relationship. Thanks again, Olive!
  6. I'm working with an Employee Database that pulls Job Updates from a Job Entry file into a portal, and sorts by Effective Date with the most recent entry on top. This information is in a portal on a layout that will be used for viewing only, so I unchecked the "Allow creation of related records" to eliminate the blank row at the bottom of the portal. It works great! However... I've now created the layout for updating the employee's record and want to add the information into the portal on this layout, rather than having to switch to the Job Entry File. I duplicated the portal relationship and checked the box to "Allow creation of related records," but when I view this new portal, it is not showing all of my related records but instead has duplicated the most recent record in place of however many records should be showing for that file (i.e. If an employee has 3 entries in the Job Entry file, this portal will show the most recent entry 3 times). I have tried creating a new relationship from scratch to no avail. The only relationship that will work is my original relationship, but I can't use the same relationship for viewing and editing (or can I)? Also, is there a way to put the blank portal at the top? I would appreciate any help. kmoats
