  1. Here is my problem: I've made some changes on a file and I now need to update it at a different site, so I open the file at the other site and export all data to a fileold.fp5 I copy in the new file and when I try to import the data the fields don't match up! I need to mention I have not added any new fields, just new scripts. I then need to spend a great deal of time matching up field to field relationships before importing the data. What gives? Thanks, Jim
  2. That's a good idea, but I wanted to tell you what I've worked out. As I could not count on the person having adobe I set up a generic printer-text in windows and then print to a file using the generic-text printer "this allows it to save as ASCII. Then it defaults to a file name "file.txt" which can be attached to an email and printed out at the customer site. Thanks for your input. Jim
  3. I'm using FMP5.5 windows ver and I need to keep a link from my FMP data file to MS Access 97. When I create the ODBC link, Access says I have to many index's. As I need the indexes and have deleted as many as I could, I thought "Why not export all the data to a FMP 5.5 file and ODBC link to it?" So I created a DSN file for the new exported FMP file and proceded with my external link from Access. Here is the problem, After I select the new file source, Access wants me to select a Link Table and there are none! When I created the link to my original file it showed all the data files to choose from. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it? Thanks.
  4. I'm using FMP ver 5.5 for Windows and I need to be able to have a report emailed on a reagular basis to someone. I thought it would be possible if I could print my report as a text file and then attach it to an email. Is this possilbe? or is there a way to have a report sent via email as an attachment. Thanks
  5. Hello Mark, When I try to use a Summary field in the sub-summary area I get this pop up message. " The field you select cannot be a summary field, a global field or any field of type container" This is wierd? Please advise Thanks
  6. I agree, there a very cleaver people that use this board! Thank you everyone for all your help I will give it a try! Oh, any reason the page numbering would stopped working on this report?
  7. I've tried both of these things but nothing show up! And it will not allow me to put a calculated field in a sub-summary section???
  8. I have a report that is sorted by drivers names and I'd like to have a total amount for each driver a page break and then the next driver with a total amount etc... I can only seem to get a Total for the whole report adding all drivers. Whats the magic to get total on sub-summary fields? On a second note I am having a wierd problem with page numbers where every page is 1. I checked the footer and the retart page number after each occurance is not checked. This should be a no brainer as it works in other reports properly. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
  9. No, I checked both and that's not it. I have no "_" as a last char and the file's are not hidden. Can you think of any thing else that may cause this problem
  10. I have 4 Win/XP computers set to TCP/IP in network protocol. When I open the program on the HOST computer it says allowing multiuser over TCP/IP for each file it opens. When I try to open the host file it can't be found from inside FMP5.5 and if I link to the file directly in the shared drive it says "the file is single-user or the host can't be found on the network". I'm stuck what's going on? Why does it not show up on the host list and the network connection works fine as I can see all the files available? Any help is much appricatied Thanks
  11. I'm using FMP 5.5 for windows and I have a question that I'm sure has been solved or asked before. I would like to use one file maker file (Like a menu) to serve all utilitiy functions i.e. export and import into or from various data files. So I've created a Utilities file and from there I want to export data from my orders file, invoices etc... My problem seems to be that when I use the export from the script command it wants to export from my Utilities file and I can't tell it to use my Orders file. Thanks for your help! Jim
  12. Hello all, As a newbi to Filemaker Pro 5.5, I have what I think would be a common request. I want to open a scanner program or any program for that matter i.e. (HP scanjet application) from within my file maker application. So the user can hit a script button that will open the scanner app and then the scanned image can be save to a container field all in one procedure. I have found external procedure calls for web use or email but nothing else. Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Jim
  13. Hello Bd, First let me say thank you for your quick response! I'd like to ask you a few questions? First, What do you mean by "on the left side of the relationship?" Would that be the order file or the invoice file? You describe a global field set with a looping script. Does that mean I would have to type every possible date that may be in the order file? Where does the startdate and enddate go in this equation? Thanks again for your help.
  14. I'm a new user of FileMaker Pro 5.5 and have a question on filtering inside of Portals. I've read a few postings on it but for some reason I'm not getting it. Here is the details: I have an Orders data file with years of data in it and I'm needing to invoice out of that file. I've created an invoice data file and I'm using a customer no. in both files as my relationship to tie them together sorting them by date descending. The portal shows all files from orders O.K. and I would like to be able to do the following: Pull up only files in a date range i.e. startdate and enddate Be able to tag those records once they've been invoiced (or manually tag them inside the portal.) Have a total or sub total calculation in invoice data based on the portal records from my filter. Any help is very much appreciated as I'm STUCK!
