Applescript to create folder on HDD
Triodes replied to Triodes's topic in Legacy FileMaker Server Discussions
Still no luck. I've tried local paths and remote paths, but nothing let's me make files. ServerName:Public:MyFolder: Macintosh HD:Shared Items:Public:MyFolder: I'm no longer using the "of disk.." in the applescript. Why is it so hard to find the path to a folder??? ======================== The problem was not the finding of the path like the error message kept saying, but it had no write privilledge. Why the message says the folder can not be found when it does find it, but just can't write to it, is a mystery to me... It's working now with ServerName:Public:MyFolder -
Applescript to create folder on HDD
Triodes replied to Triodes's topic in Legacy FileMaker Server Discussions
Grrr.. Just leave out the "of disk macintosh HD" in the applescript and point directly to the server name instead of "Users:Servername:" Life can be so simple somtimes.... -
Hello, I'm running FMS9 on OSX-Server 10.5 I have a script that uses an apple-script to create a folder on the server HDD to store client information like PDF's, emails etc. On creating a new client, a folder is made with the client name and number. Previously I ran FMS9 on a stand-alone PC (non-server) and I could just list "macintosh HD:rootname:". When switching to OSX Server I ofcourse had to place these in the "Users:Servername:Public" folder to be accessible to other computers. My question is, what is the path to this folder? I've tried "Macintosh HD:Users:Servername:Public:" but I get an error that this folder can not be accessed. Thanks in advance!!!

FM Server Services not starting at system boot.

Still don't know how... Scratch that, InternetExplorer was the culprit, did not take well with Java. -

FM Server Services not starting at system boot.
Triodes replied to agutleben's topic in Legacy FileMaker Server Discussions
I do want to! The office has no one that knows anything about the software and they have a UPS installed to give a controlled shut-down. That plus an hourly backup that goes back 24 hours, and then a daily backup for a week, etc... I don't want to be called in the middle of the night just to start a bloody FM server application because the compter has been rebooted. -

How can I get the Mac to do this every time it boots? -
Hello, I'm about to install 10.5 on all our PC's and have run into the Leopard/FMS9 hitch. For the meantime I would like to keep our old server intact, running Server8. Can I install FMP9 on my clients, assuming no changes will be made to scripts which could be version dependant. Thanks.

If there are files in there already, try deleting these first. When I swapped the HDD and set the rights, the old files would not be overwritten for some reason. Gave me a headache until I just deleted all the old backups, worked fine since.

Disable close/min-/maximize button under OSX
Triodes replied to Triodes's topic in Security Concepts
Hi, Lost track of this topic and have been away for a while... @Soren: When users close a window, the window underneath does not necessarily show the same customer/invoice/etc as what they were working on (depends on the last action that was made in that file). This causes problems when the users don't look at what they are now editing (after closing the last window) and justa ssume it was the customer or invoicenumber they had before. Right now I have added exit-scripts to return them to the main menu so they will need to go through all the screens to get back to what they were working on. @All: I agree a single file will prevent this, either in a single file with all DB's or a single file out of 43 that holds all the layouts and navigation. My problem is that right now I have over 370 layouts, 400 relations and 1500 scripts spread out over the 43 files in question. It will be less work to start from scratch, but my customer does not want to pay for that of course The work-around of exit-scripts seems to work for now. All new tables are added into existing files, but the old table structure will remain. I can include the smaller tables into other files, but the larger tables will require too much work to migrate/embed. -
Best way to handle 1000's of user accounts?
Triodes replied to Kent Searight's topic in Security Concepts
Create an extra table to contain users/passwords/etc... or even just add a couple of fields (don't know your setup). Have all users login automatically as "guest" or whichever level you want to give, and script to check the users against existing records in the tabel/fields you've just created. This way you're not affecting the accounts/privilleges, but are still registering all the users/passwords that log on along with their survey info. -
Disable close/min-/maximize button under OSX
Triodes replied to Triodes's topic in Security Concepts
I have an application running under OSX that contains about 43 files. Under OSX each file opens as a new window. Problem with this is the users want to go back to another screen/file and just click the little red ball with the X (close app). There are numerous relations so the place where the users closes a certain file causes problems with invoicing etc (now seeing a different customer and what not). The option to add a shut-down script is an option, as I could force them to the main menu in order to rebuild the path they were working with. NB: Yes, I would indeed use a copy to test these kinds of things on I don't think Kiosk mode will work, as all users need the ability to change value-lists, one of the criteria that disables kiosk mode according to the manual (yeah, actually read some of it). -
Disable close/min-/maximize button under OSX

All functions/navigation is scripted, so that is not a problem. I will look into the kiosk mode right away. Thanks... -
Hi, I'm running a multi-file for multi-user database with Server 8.0v3 on OSX. My users keep clicking the close button (x) which causes relationships to be lost, with all nasties that result from this. Is there a way to remove these buttons from the window? I'm talking about the red/yellow/green balls in the top left of the mac windows.

Hello, Some of my users use the keychain option to store their passwords. As some of the PC's are accessible to people walking around in the showroom, I want to disable this option, so that when starting the application, the name and password are not fetched from the keychain but HAVE TO BE entered manually each time. Does anyone have a work around? Thank you.

Network connection timeout
Triodes replied to Triodes's topic in Legacy FileMaker Server Discussions
Hi, Sorry, was on holiday the last two weeks. The User Privillege Set is not set to disconnect, either is the server. I have set the energy saving to off and this seems to have solved the problem. Many thanks! Specially from my users : -
Network connection timeout
Triodes replied to Triodes's topic in Legacy FileMaker Server Discussions
Hi, Yes. The server has been rebooted a couple of times since setting this option. It is unchecked when I look. -
Hi, Running FM Server 8.2 and Pro8.2 clients on OSX-Tiger. All my users get the message that their network connection has timed-out and that all files will be closed after about 30 minutes of not using FM. I disabled the "disconnect on timeout" feature in the FM Server configuration but this does not help much (it was set to 4 hours prior to turning it completely off). I've already checked the privelege sets in all my files but the function to disconnect on idle is not enabled anywhere. Does anyone know where I should look?

Hi, Thank you for the tips! I'm stil not used to the CommitRecords script step after migrating to 8.0, seems redundant in 99.9% of the cases (in my situation anyway). Now to check out 1300+ scripts to see which change the focus and which don't :(

Hi, I am running our database on FM8 (just migrated last month). There are 35 files left after integrating the smaller tables into other files. My users are getting error mesages when editing records saying that the record is already being used/edited and they can't change anything. This happens when only one user is online, so it is not related to other users actually being in the same record. My guess is that it is related to the relations between files (that are still open in the background). Does anyone know how t solve this? Thank you for your time... PS: I'm running FM server 8v2 on Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.6

When I switch from Browse to Layout and have multiple files open, the focus goes to another file and all open files/windows blink a few times. I have to enter a command to accept all changed records (don't know the english command name) before my portals in other files show the updated info, which I didn't in 6.0

Scriptmaker not accessable when under Server 8
Triodes replied to Triodes's topic in FileMaker Server 11
Hi Stanley, Thanks for the reply... I just checked and it seems security is a bit more advanced on 8.0 than on our previous 5.5 version. Added the fmsadmin priviliedges and modified the NetSetup properties. It's up an running now. Thanks a lot!! Jim
