ahh! i set a global calculation to a text string, but it never loads when i open the database. the funny thing is that i have another global caculation in the same table and it seems to load perfectly fine. whats going on?!! help? using filemaker 7 not 6. edit: i'm trying to use the global calculation as an interface relationship

My boss asked me if this was possible on filemaker. I responded by saying I don't know, I'll have to do some research. Now I'm posing the question here. He basically wants to measure the amount of emails sent to particular email accounts. He wants that total and auto-updated into fields in the filemaker database we currently have. A couple of complications, one is that our email server is not the same company as our filemaker hosting company. I assuming this must be some type of parsing program to look at the email and appropriately increment a variable. This variable must be linked to filemaker somehow to create automation. -Some questions Is this even possible? Can this be done using a server-side programming language like perl? Can this be automated by integrating filemaker and the mail-count program? I appreciate any feedback or help. Thanks!

Hello, I'm trying to set a field based on the last modified field out of a group of fields in my record. Example, I trying to set "Progress" field based on the last modified field say out of 5 fields, lets just call them field "A", "B", "C", "D", "E". If "E" was last modified, I want the field "Progress" to display (E was last modified). Thanks for your help. _yung_

Hi, I'm was wondering if it was possible to make a specfic field in the portal row to display the entire contents of it when I click on it or select it. It will only display the contents partially due to the boundaries of the field itself. I can make the field display all if I allow the field to be edited in which I do not. I have a somewhat complex problem. I need to be able to synchronize the records in a database from the filemaker server file and the local machine file. The file is accessed and changed by 4 or 5 people. I tried to use import updates as a solution, unfortunately the importing function doesn't take into account when the record was most recently updated. Thus updating and replace either the server file or local file with old information. Can someone point me to a viable solution without the use of an expensive plug-in. Thank you for your help. BTW, putting the file online is not a ideal option since my boss wants to be able to work while offline as well. Some type of psudeo-synchronziation would be ideal since others access the database.
