  1. It seems like what you're talking about is making a clone of the working file (with or without data wasn't clear to me) and renaming the clone. It's a great shortcut to recreating a file with tables included but isn't necessary to using the separation model. My datafile has a layout for each table with no design and no scripts. My user interface has all the scripting, buttons, fancy layouts, etc. and gets to the data using file references and TOs. No data is stored in my user interface and it is a pretty small file. The data file is around 150 megabytes. So are we talking about the same thing?
  2. What are the three files? Data, Interface, and B)
  3. Thanks for this calculation. I used Year ( Get ( CurrentDate ) ) - Year ( DOB ) - ( Get ( CurrentDate ) < Date ( Month ( DOB ) ; Day ( DOB ); Year ( Get ( CurrentDate ) ) ) ) from Queue and it worked perfectly. This forum is a GREAT resource
  4. I figured out why it wouldn't work. I'm using a data file that is separate from the user interface. The table occurence I'm referencing doesn't exist in the data file, just in the user interface. So I had to create the reference in the data file and then do the count from there. Thanks for your help.
  5. I'll have to make a smaller file before I can zip and load. Mine's pretty hefty right now. And I think I'll have to do it tomorrow as I have to leave the office in a few minutes. Sorry for the delay when you are willing to help now. Meanwhile, a quick question, would you put the function in a field in the table that the layout is based on or put the function in a field somewhere else? I have it in my table of globals, which has one record. This works great for displaying what I want to display in the portals, by the way. I just can't get a count of the portal rows. The only time I get an answer other than "?" is when I pick the original data table and not one of the table occurences of the same data. They're both linked to global through the same IDNumber field.
  6. The number of related records varies from as few as 1 to as many as 115. I have the result field set very large. I am going through a couple of table occurrences to get the relationship that I need. Does it have to be based on a real table or can I count through a table occurence?
  7. Sorry for being dense but where would you put the Count function to have it count the portral rows? I tried using a field on the layout and used Count (table::field) with table being the table the portal is based on and field being a field displayed in the portal. I got a "?" as my result.
  8. Thanks for posting this info. It really helped!
  9. This sounds perfect. Would you mind posting the script/calculation that you are using to achieve the different colors? It would be much appreciated.
  10. Also, on the "add but don't edit" area, is only the latest entry visible or is all of it visible? More data, please. This would solve SO MUCH for our development. Thank you!
  11. I would like to be able to script having an item in a layout move forward or backward in the layout (e.g. a button or field becomes visible or is hidden). Is it possible to script this?
  12. Do you mean it will verify the format or verify that the domain is a working URL?
  13. Thanks very much for clearing up the mystery. And I'm glad your book came out so soon after the release of FM 7. It's been a big help in learning the program. Hour one cleared up a my confusion from trying to compare different programs. Thank you.
  14. I've ordered that too and am hoping it's better for someone starting from scratch. This one would be frustrating for a newbie. So yours sounds like a good strategy.
  15. If you want to get someone going on FM7, I recommend having them use the tutorial for FM 7 and then use this book. By the third chapter, the book assumes you already know the commands to do certain things. This was fine except where the commands were different from FM 6. That's when I realized I needed to do the FM7 tutorial first. The book starts very simply but then makes some leaps. I found that I would sometimes read the quiz at the end of the chapter and have no idea the question had been covered so I had to review some chapters several times. I think some of the older books are better but they won't be specific to FM 7. So I guess it will come down to the level of user you're talking about training.
