  1. Queue, Thanks for your responses. As I have done earlier, I fear I haven't explained myself very well. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Lisa
  2. Queue, thanks for the kind response. I'm working on a database that was developed by someone who was learning as she went. This particular database is used to capture task hours in total "and" broken down by participant. There are 26 rows for personnel that have corresponding WBS fields. Each of the rows is a unique field as are the individual WBS fields. After my FM classes, I learned that repeating fields might work. What I created was a 27th row as a repeater. I also made each of the WBS fields repeating and included the field name in the calculation for the Total field for each of the WBS columns. However, none of the hours input in rows 28-37 (as an example) compute into the Total field. I appreciate your help as the examples aren't much help to me. Thanks, Lisa
  3. I have added to a list of fields to be summed and they are set to repeat 40 times. I cannot get the subsequent repeaters to calculate. The sum calculation includes the base field and the option to repeat is also selected. Does anyone have an idea the sum function isn't working? Thanks, Lisa
  4. Hi Quentin, Our network on occasion resets the preferences of the FMP application which causes the same symptoms as you are experiencing. In order to solve our problem, I recommend the user go to Edit --> Preferences --> Application. In the dialog box have the user ensure that his/her name is in the user name field and that the Network Protocol is set to TCP/IP. After clicking <OK>, the user will then have to restart FMP for the preferences to take effect. HTH, Lisa
  5. You're right, I believe I have a mapping problem between the two fields. I'll keep you posted.
  6. Thanks Jerry! That is exactly the scenario I'm talking about. I got through most of it but am having a problem getting the 'FoodType' to auto fill. Let me noodle through it and I'll let you know if I was successful. You DA MAN
  7. Thanks Lee but the system I have FMP on is a closed system and I don't have access to on-line help.
  8. Hi Jerry, I must be doing something wrong. I want to make sure I understand you correctly. The first Field A should be the test type and the second Field A should contain values for the corresponding report type? Thanks for walking me through this! Lisa
  9. Hello, would love to RTFM (and have Nolan Hester's beginners book as well as Cynthia Baron/Daniel Peck Advanced) to find my answer but apparently the words are getting in the way. My Senior Engineer refers to this problem/solution as using Jump Tables but I can't find anything like this. Point me in the right direction please (Windows users): Field A provides test type. Field B provides the associated report type. Is there an easier way (other than If-Then-Else) to trigger the correct report type based on the test type selection? Both fields are in the same db. It appears that it would be simple if the fields were in different databases. Much obliged! Lisa
  10. I tried the Windows-speak version of your Applescript and came up with a "file won't convert" error. Anyone Windows savvy that can help a newbie out? Lisa
  11. thanks for the response! The initial thought was to open the excel document because there are four different sheets within the workbook addressing various aspects of the database info. Would your suggestion of importing into a text file give me the same result?
  12. Hello All, I have a database that I'm trying to link a help document to using a <Help>. Currently, the help info is in an Excel workbook. Is there a way to link (via a <Help>) this info to the database? If so, how? If it has to be linked within a FileMaker table, can I link it with a simple script? I appreciate everyone's time and help! Lisa
