  1. Thanks Vaughan - you were right. There was a leading space in the data in Filemaker. It didn't show at all in Filemaker but was a bit of formatting picked up when the data was copied into Filemaker from Quark. I'm not sure what it is as it appears as a small solid rectangle within a small rectangular border, but shows as a paragraph return when I attempt to replace it in Word. Anyway I should be able to strip them all out by exporting to Word and importing back into Filemaker. Thanks for your interest and help.
  2. Thanks Vaughan - I am in fact using FMP 10 Advanced and Leopard (I hadn't updated my profile on the forum for some time!). I've tried a few more things and still can't get rid of the extra spaces! But thanks for the reply anyway.
  3. Can anyone help? Filemaker adds a single space before the field contents when I export text data. I'm exporting six fields for use in an Excel spreadsheet - running Filemaker Pro Advanced on a Mac running Mac OS X v 10.5.8 Each time I export, whether it's a Tab sep or a Comma sep file, Filemaker adds a single space before the field data. Strangely it doesn't do this for the fields from the first record, or for number fields, but all other text fields get a space added before them. Any suggestions as to how I can stop this gratefully received!
  4. It now works perfectly! Thanks again
  5. Thank you for the information - I'll check the update now.
  6. Hi, I have used customer postcodes and field that required a 'Unique' postcode field value during data entry to avoid creating duplicate customer records on my database. This worked well with FileMaker versions 3 and 4.1 but with FileMaker 7 the onscreen warning of a duplicate does not trigger until I have finished keying-in all the address and customer data. Earlier versions of FileMaker picked up the duplicate as soon as I tabbed out of the postcode field. I'd appreciate advice if anyone knows a simple way to get round this? It still seems to work in the 'old way' in FM Dev 7 in Windows XP... but not on the Mac in OSX!
  7. Thank you for the feedback.... I have tried this BUT it still does not seem to validate the postcode field until I have either clicked on the file background (to deselect all fields) or am exiting this record for another or for a new record. Very irritating when you have keyed in all the customer data!!! Are you working on FileMaker 7? Are there any specific settings needed in the 'Validate data in this field' section of the dialog box?
