Hi Laretta I have decided to go with your solution. On the master AUSCOIN database I use, I have added the popover buttons, resized the popover windows associated with each button and added the IMAGE and IMAGE2 fields to the respective popover windows. When you test the 2 popover buttons, they work. So far, so good! I then added the resize image buttons and added the code Go to Object [Object Name: <name>] to each button. However, when I test each button ... nothing happens! What am I missing? I have made a clone of the file I have been working on, and added 1 record. Maybe you can spot something that is not making the resize buttons working. Frank SO FAR.fmp12

Hi comment Your comment that the popover area is always positioned with its center aligned with the popover button provided me a solution. Rather than having the 2 popover buttons side-by-side, I positioned the buttons on top of each other. In this way I could make sure that the width of the popover windows was the same (which is what I wanted). I could also make the height of the top of each popover window the same (which is what I also wanted). The only thing different is the bottoms of the popover windows ... but I can live with that! I am experimenting with the use of popovers on a coin database I keep. Refer to Image 1: I have added 2 popover buttons, one in the bottom right-hand corner of the first coin and the second on the bottom left-hand corner of the second coin shown in the database. The first button, when clicked, is designed show an enlarged picture of Bluey while the second button, when clicked, is designed to show an enlarged picture of King Charles III. At the moment, when I click either button, I do get a popover with the enlarged image – but not the size/location I want (See Database). Here is my wish: when either button is clicked, I want the popover to cover exactly the area covered by the blue rectangle, as shown in Image 2. In other words, I would like the popover to cover the images of the 2 coins completely. My issue: When I try to resize, I am unable to select exactly the size of the popover I want. Dragging the corner or middle resize handles on the popover to create the size of the popover I want does not work – the popover resizes to another size either bigger/smaller compared to what I want. Can what I want be achieved? If I am doing something wrong, I would like to know what it is and how I can do this myself later. Any screenshots of changes made would be very much appreciated! I have a small database called RECIPES. On each record is a container field called IMAGE where I upload a small image of the created recipe. I would like to show a larger image of the one in this field. I downloaded a file called popoveContainerDEMO (attached) to show me how to do it. I installed a popover button on the RECIPES database and named it "Enlarge Image" as seen on the attached RECIPES database. HOWEVER, when I click on the Enlarge Image button to display the popover and then try to drag an image to the popover, the image does not load. Again, comment, thank you for your quick response! The fact that you experience the same behaviour seems to indicate that all is ok then. I am interested in your comment that I might need to modify something for the found set to be updated. As I have uploaded the file with my post, are you able to advise what possibly that could be? I tried it and you are right! A question: I do a search and, say 10 records are found. I then quit. If I re-open the file, I would expect to see the search results. But I am not. Is this normal? (Or is this something I have never noticed?)

Hello In the last hour I have found out that changes that I have made to a number of FM files are not being saved. If I make a change in a file, quit, then re-open the file, the screen is the same as it was when I opened that file. This has come all of a sudden! What is the cause of this please? Should I re-install FMP19? I attach a file that is not updating. The Reset | Show All button shows all records and sorts them in order. AUSGEO2024.fmp12

I redid the portal in a backup file and still this issue resurfaces. Be interested in your ideas as to why this is happening. I note that, if you click on the record after you have selected it from the portal, the red borderline of the fields returns. AUSCOIN 2024 COPY.fmp12

Thanks for a quick response! I have attached 2 images. Image 1 shows the database when I open it. Image 2 shows the database after I click a record in the portal. Am I right in assuming that this is what happens when using a portal? Frank

Am a newbie! I have just added a portal to a coin database I created to speed up navigation and display search results. Initially, when I open my database, all fields are displayed with a solid red border (thickness of 1) as added by me. If I click on a portal row to display a record, the border of all records changes to a dotted line; the red border disappears. Can someone tell me what is happening, please?

Hi Consultant Your idea of a custom dialog immediately attracted my attention. So I tried it out on 1 record - no problem! However, if you go to any other record, you get the same commentary - no good. Only way for this method to work is to create a separate script for every record. So if you had 200 records, you would need 200 separate scripts, each with its own commentary only applicable for that record. Not worth it! I will try your other suggestions! Regards Frank

Hi I created a recipes database. One thing that I have been toying with is a field that shows from where I obtained that recipe (e.g. net, cookbook, etc). Given that info in this field can date / disappear), I only want to view this field if it is absolutely necessary e.g. I need to update a recipe from the original source, update the source of that recipe, etc I am not really concerned if the field remains unhidden on the record I am viewing until I exit that record. "Clicking a button" simply means pressing a button on the same record that has the hidden field; with that button having a script to unhide the hidden field. Changing the Get(WindowMode) value to 1 does not work. Get(WindowMode) = 1 operates in Find Mode only. Get(WindowMode) = 0 applies in Browse mode - and this is what I am doing, browsing records. I want to have a set-up whereby a field is hidden until a button press "unhides" the field. I can hide the field by using Get(WindowMode) = 0 in the "Hide object when" section of the Inspector. I am after a script for a button that will unhide the field when the button is pressed. The closest I have come to, without success is, to create a script for the button that uses the Set Field command. This command allows you to set the target field but requires you to also enter a calculation result. I do not know what to enter or whether using the Set Field command in my script is the right way to go to achieve what I want (show the field). Any assistance would be appreciated. Frank

I run a database for the hospital I work at. On the main screen is a portal where I manually add new records by going to the first blank line in the portal and manually entering the details in. To make it easier for others to use the database, I would like to have a button on the main screen which takes users to a layout where they enter the details. When they hit the Enter button on this screen, they are taken back to the main screen - and the portal contains the details entered sorted so that the latest data is on the top line - there is a date field. Just requesting a file that I can look at so that I can learn how it is done and apply it to the database I currently use. Thanks Frank Am currently using Filemaker Pro 12

Hi Repeated the trial again, but tried first importing records to the relatd table first. Did not work - related tables still greyed out. So it seems that while you cannot export records from a related table, you cannot import to them. Frank

Hi All I am still considering myself a newbie and my query may have been dealt with before. I have a database which has a portal displaying records from a related table. I have exported all the records in this table as an Excel spreadsheet but, as a test on importing records into a clone of my database, I find that the Import Field Mapping dialog box where you match source fields from the Excel spreadsheet with the target fields in the Filemaker database, related tables are greyed out. Does this mean that I cannot import to records from the Excel spreadsheet to the records in the related table in the portal? Frank

Lee - the portal does work as expected. When I click on a portal row, it does go to the related record. However, it does it in the same window - which makes it easy to use for the staff I work with. I am learning to live with it. The ease of navigating to specific records without needing to search for them outweighs the issue I raised - not that staff who use the database would notice it! Rick / John - staff who use the database use it to find a record. For consistency in data entry, I am the only one who makes changes to the database. If they do make changes, they are lost when I upload the latest copy of the file to the shared drive in our office. What I am finding is that when I go to another record after I select a record from a portal row, sometimes the portal resets when the new record displays ... and sometimes it doesn't!

Re a portal I have set up: in some instances when I click a record in a portal, it resets to the first record in the portal while in other instances, the portal will "stick" on the current portal - which is what I want - and not reset to the first record. Am using Filemaker 12. Anyway to stop the reset? Note: in the portal setup, "Show vertical scroll bar" is selected and "Reset scroll bar when exiting record" is not selected. Any help is appreciated! UPDATE: Problem solved! Moving the file to the XP desktop allowed access to the "Manage Scripts" menu item!

Thanks for the quick replies! LEE - am running FileMaker 12.0.3 on my Windows work machine running XP. I use 12.0.4 on my Mac running Mountain Lion at home. BRUCE - when I go to the Scripts Menu, "Manage Scripts" is greyed out for this file (but not for the database I want to install this feature in). It lists the script I want to view below the "Manage Scripts" menu item but selecting that only runs the script. This is happening on my Windows work machine running XP. In about 4 hours, I'll be home and will see what happens when I use my Mac. Will let you know what happens! Frank

Thank you MetaSys Software for the SearchContact_Sample file. It is what I am after! As I like to see how the file works, is it possible to upload a version of the file which would allow me to see the actual code of scripts used in the file. It will help me understand how it works and what I need to do to modify it for my database. Again, many thanks from the Land Downunder! Frank
