  1. Hey the link you've given me doesn't seem to work.
  2. Thanks, all four databases open with the startup script (which is probably part of the reason the loading time is so slow) so we only ever use one machine to host. I don't think this is the problem. Perhaps the file is corrupt. It crashed a few months ago and I lost all my scripts and had to import from an earlier back-up. Would it be worth running a recover on it again? Will this pick up any problems with the files?
  3. Hi I'm running Filemaker 6 - with 5 users. I have four databases that all talk to each other: contacts organisations program volunteers Everything has been running really well using up to 3 licenses but now, using 5 licenses, random things keep going wrong...for example, for no reason at all a script might stop working. If you change to layout mode and back to browse mode it will magically work again. It's also incredibly slow to load up and very slow to swap between the databases using on-screen buttons...sometimes running these external scripts even crashes the program altogether. The real problem I'm having is that some of my portals aren't updating to display new information. I've checked all the relationships and they seem to be correct. Any thoughts? Do you think upgrading to 7 or 8 will solve these annoying problems? I have a festival in four weeks and this is causeing me enormous amounts of grief and the timing couldn't be worse. Thanks Rhiannon
  4. Thanks....the problem seems to have corrected itself
  5. They're indexed in English.
  6. The find script is just; Peform Find [Restore, Replace Found Set] Go to Layout ["Results Page"] I have realised that I am having the same problem for all fields, not just the calculation field.
  7. Hi I keep encountering a serach error the first time I try to search in a calculated field. The field is a calculation - Writer 1 Name & " " & Writer 2 Name & " " & Writer 3 Name & " " & Writer 4 Name & " " & Writer 5 Name & " " & Writer 6 Name & " " & Chair Name I want to be able to search on any of the writer's names but the fist time I try the search I always get a message saying that there is no valid criteria in the request - when I modify the find by typing in the exact same thing the results come up perfectly. Any suggestions? R
  8. Hi I'm just a new Filemaker user so I am making my excuses from the outset. I am trying to create a database to handle event scheduling. At the moment I have three databases that talk to each other - 1. Personal contact details 2. Organisation details 3. Program details (we run a festival so this includes fields like session title, start & end times, date, venue, speaker 1, speaker 2, speaker 3, speaker 4 etc.) The speaker 1, 2, 3, 4, fields in "program details" have drop down boxes of all the contacts in the "personal contact details" database. I'd like to be able to create a personal schedule for each speakers (must update automatically when changes to the program are made) in the "Personal Contact Details" but the only way I can figure out to do this is to create a portal for each of the speaker fields. This seems very clumsy - I basically want a function that will look for the person's name in each of the speaker fields and then list all the sessions they're appearing in and the associated program details. eg Personal Contact details John Smith session 1. Environmental Issues, Sun 3 Oct, 9am - 10am, speaker 1, speaker 2, speaker 2 venue: Town Hall session 2. Water Management, Sun 3 Oct, 9am - 10am, speaker 1, speaker 2, speaker 2 etc. Is my query clear enough for anyone to suggest anything that might help solve this? many thanks R
