Hi,
I have a system with embedded pdf-files and have run into what I think is a domain-user related kind of problem. But I am not 100% sure.
When using iwp and displaying the container-field on a layout it becomes a link automatically. And clicking that link normally opens the pdf-document. Yea, fine on my laptop if I am not logged on as a domain user. But if I go over to any of the other employees computers (they are inlogged as domain users)I get a message that says an error occured - could not display the file.
I am only using the guest account to automatically get in to the system without typing any username or password on the webpage. So, first I thought it was that guest account which got the trouble but as my laptop is working fine it can´t be I think.
The alternative method:
I know that if I place the pdf-files on the webserver in the InetPub/wwwroot/myPdfFolder and instead use the webviewer with a filepath to that shared folder it will display just fine.
But, as I have a system build on this embedded pdf-files It would be great if anyone have run into this kind of problem before and know what might be the problem.
It is sometimes a very good thing to have a copy of the files outside FileMaker it really is. So, I am not saying it is a bad idéa to use a combination of both technics. It is what I am doing right now actually. ;-)
But, it is the issue with embedded files which in some cases wont be able to display without having trouble. And yes, I forgot to say that it also differs using Firefox and Internet Explorer. Firefix can work better in this case. And to come around the problem with displaying a pdf-file directly you could of-course choose to download it first and then open it up. But, that is not a smooth thing for the user I think.
Cheers
