  1. This one solved by doing the imports without any auto-enter options. Thank you for your assistance.
  2. Thanks, IdealData, for your reply, I will give the import a try according to your suggestion. I have tried a scripted import on another project and that worked fine but this one has some 'interesting' lookups and calculations.
  3. Thanks, omegagoh, for your response - I will change the order of the import of two troublesome tables and see if that solves the problem. I intend to split the file into BE and FE too which will remove this problem but that's quite a major project due to the current structure. Watch this space ...
  4. Hi, I am working with an old system which was built as a number of separate files which reference each other, rather than one file with multiple tables. I need some guidance here on good practice when changing layouts. When I have made a layout change, I backup the live version of the file, replace it with my new version, delete all records from my new version and then import all the data from the backup version. This works for most of the files but ... two of the files have lookup fields to each other. So the question is: which one should I import first? Or is there something I can run after importing to make sure ALL lookups get redone? Looking forward to your help, Brian
  5. Hi, I have a similar problem and wonder if you got a solution. Cheers, Brian
  6. Hi, This may not be the right place for this item but I couldn't find one which seemed a better fit. I have started on a job which requires me to transfer an old FM5 application from Mac to PC and then do some modifications. I intend to convert to FM9 or 10 a little later but want to get the application up and running unchanged on the PCs before embarking on any changes. Problem is the client has lost two of his three FM5 disks, which was the only place the licence key was recorded. Does anybody out there have any FM5 disks/licences which they could sell me, please? Looking forward to your help.
  7. Phil, Thank you for your reply - I understand the implications of using the Copy script step but can live with that for the moment (so can the user). I believe I used the Set Field script step early on but will have another look at it. Thanks, Brian
  8. Found the answer at last! Using the script steps Copy and Paste, rather than Set Field. :
  9. I'm a FileMaker newbie with Access experience. I'm trying to set up a reporting menu where the user can specify the criteria to filter records by and some other data to use on the report. On the main data layout, there is a portal and that is one of the fields by which records can be selected for reporting. Using a script, I have managed to get into Find mode and insert some data from the reporting layout into the field on the main data layout BUT it is the field name from the reporting layout, rather than the contents of that field. What's the magic characters I have to add, please?
