Has anyone had any luck in using a BarCode scanner with Webdirect?

Here is what I am trying to achieve.  Have a user walk up to our workstation and scan their badge to take a survey.  I have the workflow working in FileMaker but I can't get it to work in WebDirect.  I can see the barcode field flash with the ID that was scanned by it quickly clears out.

Any thoughts or ideas would be great.  Thanks.

A barcode scanner is supposed to just mimic the keyboard. So it should work
