Is there a way to make filemaker match the exact string instead of just the first matching substring when comparing fields in defining relationships? ex: 15-A' should match to 15-A' only and not 15-A

use the field exact match sybmol ==

I believe that what is happening is that your fields are set to be indexed by English. In this case the ' is not part of the text and so does not get indexed. Set your indexing to ASCII and it will index all the characters.
