Local Address contains control or whitespace

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm trying to use the email plug in and it worked fine until an error occurred with one of the contacts I'm trying to email.  The error message read: "Local Address contains control or whitespace". I've checked the email address that I'm using and it seems fine.  But I admit, I don't really understand the message. Can anyone help me, please?

Thanks!!

Does the address have any invisible characters or things at the beginning or end of the address? If not could you reproduce the issue and then submit a bug report? You can do that from within Filemaker in the Preferences menu > Plugins > Click configure for the Email plugin and Report a bug. Include a brief description and also include the problematic email address. Thanks!

I've traced it, I think to a comma (,), because the name of a person includes a suffix ("John Doe, Ph.D. <[email protected]>, Joe Smith <[email protected]>). Might this be, that commas are not allowed?

The comma will be an issue as it will parse the string based on commas. So it is actually looking for an email address where 'John Doe' is. If you need to have the names included with the address, you can escape the ',' by using '\",\"', without single quotes.

I just replaced it by an empty space and that seemed to work.

Thanks!
