Thumbnails in container fields displaying different when migrated to a new server

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had the following issue and might have a quick fix.
I migrated client files from FM Server 13 residing on Mac Server to FM Server 14 residing on Windows Server. All went very well except one thing, which i would be grateful if someone could help me on.
- The client had his files hosted on OX platform and with FileMaker 13 Server.
- There is a container field in the records that would contain pdf files, these are 1 or more pages document files.
- When the user dragged the file into the container field it would display as page thumbnail BOTH on Mac and Windows.
- files still display thumbnails when dragged on MAC
- the files are displaying FILE ICON when dragged into the container on WINDOWS.
Tech boards are suggesting that Windows can not insert the file as picture into the FM container field, but there it happened before.
Does anyone have any isight on this behaviour, is it documented anywhere?
Thank you

Thank you Wim, this was a very useful read. It does not give an easy way but at least it points and tests the inconsistency of container field behaviour on Mac vs Windows over the FM versions (13,14,15) and depending on the way the pdf files are imported in the containers.

The worst is that this highly buggy behaviour produced the thumbnail somehow on a PC when the files where hosted on Apple Server and FM Server 13, so users got used to it and want their buggy functionality back!

I will try "imagewin:/" suggestion as well, look into a couple of plugins perhaps and report here how it worked.

"imagewin:/" is giving an Error 3 - Command is unavailable (for example, wrong operating system or model)

However, when I revert back to fms15, everything goes fine.. I have tried Clean Installation, yet same result..
Can someone put me through.. We are using Windows 7 professional as our system unit

Hi - I'm sure this has been asked and answered before, but I could find it by searching.  So I apologize in advance and would appreciate suggestions for resources.
I have a solution I've been developing for years which was intended for single user use in a runtime. I'm creating a multiuser version that will be hosted on FM server.  I'm looking for information on what to look out for and what changes I need to make to avoid problems in that environment.  For instance, I'm already aware of the need to load globals from single record tables with non-global variables.   I assume there must be other things like that to be aware of but I haven't found a good resource yet.
      Thanks for your help.
Oh, just to add some details, I expect to have 5-10 users at most.

I'm new to this forum and even newer to FM... so this makes me a beginner but hoping to learn quickly.

I've been hoping to find instructions on how to create a master-detail layout, not on the parent table. It seems that with many examples found, the master detail is design to work on the main page, which means when you create a new record, it creates a new field in the portal row and you add the specific name in that field and on the detail side, all data pertaining to the portal row name. I can get this to work with no problem.

Where the problem comes in is here...

I'm creating a songwriter database. The main opening page is designed to include the song title, artist name and all data pertaining to the song (producer, writer/publisher splits, etc) I call this layout "Song". Each new record will store a new song, artist name, etc...

Now, in the Header, I added a Button bar. One of them is labeled "Pitch". The Pitch layout is designed to work with individual song titles or records, coming from the "Song" layout. This Pitch layout will include a left side portal and towards the right, detail info pertaining to each portal row. This is where I'm stuck. I'm not sure how to set this up. Any help would really be appreciated.
      Thank you.

First of all, I am a newbie on Filemaker so still learning every day new techniques... I like to search in the forums to deal with the challenges I find but this one I am posting I couldn't find anything so I am starting a new topic just in case.
I am trying to set a script to import data into our Filemaker DB from a Excel file. Normally we would download every day an excel file from our Courier company with all the tracking information and then import that info into our orders table. What I would like to set is a script that would run everynight and donwload the Excel file into a Container Field and then use that container as a source for a recurring Import. Does this make any sense? I would like to achieve is to not store any file outside of Filemaker. Is this possible?
thanks a lot again for your time,
      Best regards,
