MikeKD Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Hi Folks, I've had to wipe my laptop and re-install MacOS. I saved all the files, but Apple support said there was no point in saving the apps because they wouldn't work - I'd have to re-install them too. There's no download of FMP15 on the Filemaker website - does anyone know where it's hidden? Unfortunately, FM support doesn't work over the weekend. I have splashed the cash and tried to upgrade to FM16 using my old FM15 serial number, but it's not having it. Not very impressed with Filemaker "support" at the moment.. you guys are much better!
Lee Smith Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Hi Mike I have just gone down that road too. I ended up contacting FileMaker Customer Support. and they assisted me with the downloads. I don't know how many versions you have had, but it required all of the previous versions that I have used to get to the FMP 15. Lee p.s. It requires the previous versions as "looking for a qualifying product" (Which translates to where is the version you upgraded from (i.e 14).
MikeKD Posted July 29, 2017 Author Posted July 29, 2017 Oh great... It just occurred to me to look on my backup disk to see if there was still a copy of the FMP15 download, but unfortunately not :-( In hindsight, I think my FMP was educational / charity, rather the upgraded (the price is the same, hence my confusion). There is an option to input the serial number, rather than locate the app, but I guess that wouldn't work with an educational copy. When I realised that, I tried to buy a fresh educational copy (rather than an upgrade from FM 12-15), but FM in their wisdom decided that my second order was a mistake. So two orders later, I still don't have a working copy of FMP. even though I used to have a working FMP 15. (if only I could download an installation file!!) I guess I've learnt, that throwing money at FM doesn't solve anything... Cheers! Mike
Lee Smith Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 It doesn't matter how you get the application as long as it registered. You need to find the newest one that works, and then work your way up to 15. My oldest one that worked was 12, I used it to upgrade to 13, which then used to upgraded to 14, which I then upgraded to 15. You need the serial numbers for the previous version to supply the "looking for a qualifying product" flag in the Popup for each upgrade. You just point to the previous version. That is why I involved Customer service as they made it easier and answered my questions. Especially about the serial numbers. Good Luck.
MikeKD Posted July 29, 2017 Author Posted July 29, 2017 I'll also be invoking customer services. It's a shame they only work week day office hours though! Thanks!
Lee Smith Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 (edited) What is the first version in the chain that works today? Do you have the serial numbers? Edited July 29, 2017 by Lee Smith
MikeKD Posted July 29, 2017 Author Posted July 29, 2017 I have no working copy of FM at the moment. Before MacOS was re-installed, FM15 was (I think) either a new educational licence or possible an update from FM12 or 13. I do have FM 15 serial number, but I won't have the others until I get back to England and my Time Machine backup. I believe that if I could find a copy of FM15, my serial number would activate it. Cheers!
Lee Smith Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Sorry, you will need all of the serial numbers that were used in the chain that led to your FMPA. I did find where you can download the applications here. http://www.filemaker.com/support/downloads/ Lee
MikeKD Posted July 29, 2017 Author Posted July 29, 2017 Thanks for looking Lee, but there's no link to FM15 on that page. There is a link to the 15.x update, but the FM15 link is actually to a few windows downloads. If that page was OK, I'd have no problem (I think!) Cheers, Mike
Lee Smith Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 (edited) I think you are up a creek without. ... the backup or Customer Service. You could write an email and see if someone replies. [email protected] Edited July 29, 2017 by Lee Smith
