Drag and drop pictures into filemaker

Hi, i want to know if i can drag and drop pictures from explorer into filemaker. I tried and i only see in the container filed the path of the picture and not the photo itself.

From an Explorer window, yes you can. Just make sure the image is a compatible type (JPEG, for example). I don't think you can drag and drop from Internet Explorer, so I hope that's not what you mean.

Hi, i tried to drag a JPEG picture from an explorer window and drop it into Filemaker container field and all i got its an icon with the name of the picture. How can I obtain the picture into FileMaker ?

I'm not sure if dragging and dropping from IE will work, but if you right click on the image in IE and select copy, you can then go back to FM and paste into the container field. Not drag and drop, but gets the picture into the container. Hope this helps.

Hello. You are not talking about IE, right? just an explorer window? What happens if you copy/paste or insert/picture instead of drag/drop?

Kenneth, what is the difference between Explorer and IE?

I'm using FMPv5.0 on MacOS8.6, and can't drag & drop pictures from any other app into a container field in FMP -- the computer doesn't know I'm moving stuff from one app to another.

Windows Explorer is the directory tree-like window that shows all the contents of Windows. Internet Explorer is an internet browser (sorry, im not trying to insult your intelligence, I am just making the distinction).

I have not tried it on my Mac, but on Win2k I can drag and drop JPEGs into containers with no problems. But I cannot drag and drop images from IE into container fields. It seems to want to create a new file every time. I have found the only way to do this is to Save Picture As and then drag/drop the picture into the container. I have FM 5.5 Dev.

An afterthought:

Dan, inset a JPEG into MS Word. Then select the image and drag it into a container field in FM. What happens?

sonofa...gun! It worked! It even worked with Netscape and IE! Now why didn't it work the first three times I tried?

Never mind; it's just good to know it works now.
