I need to build a chart that shows quantity and value of categories 1 to 5.   I should use the scatter chart?

I don't understand your example. A Filemaker chart represents the data stored in your database. What kind of data does your database have? Do you have (for example) 5 records (one for each category), with 2 fields (quantity and value) each?
