paul_apted Posted July 11, 2002 Posted July 11, 2002 Hello, is there a way to paste text into an existing value list. The idea is to do a search ,then take that criteria ,paste it into a global field ,then when the resulting records have been edited (omitted) i can press a button which pastes the global field into a value list .this then can be used to "re-search" at a later time. i am a bit of a newbie so be gentle thank you in advance Paul apted
Geeksharka Posted July 11, 2002 Posted July 11, 2002 I don't know how to script the paste command to work in the Value List dialog window, but you could consider using a dynamic value list, based either on a field's contents, or a related table's contents. As those fields change, or the related fields change, (depending on which dynamic option you choose to maintain your value list), your value list will change automatically with the edits. If you try to designate your Global field as the source of the Value List, it won't work. The contents of the Global field will show up as a single option. HTH
Fitch Posted July 11, 2002 Posted July 11, 2002 Sounds to me like it's not really a value list that you're wanting, but rather a method to store and recall a found set of records. Look for sample articles and files here: http://fentonjones.com/FM101.html -- look at number 6. http://www.jamesng.com/filemaker/downloads/index.html -- "Save a Found Set" http://www.jedi.apana.org.au/~hiltonb/ARTICLES/9907/9907TXT.HTM http://www.mogulsoft.com/fmpro/ -- "ClipSave Routine" And last but NOT least: http://www.aptworks.com/downloads.html "Going to Related Records from a Found Set in FileMaker
