I had some installation problems so the process went back and forth enough times that I lost track of all the steps I did or didn't take. Now that I have the demo working I'm realizing I may not have entered any information to validate that I have an FMDS subscription required to access the FM Migration Tool. 

So that leaves me wondering in general: Does use of 360Deploy2 require one to have such a subscription or is your solution completely independent of that tool?

You are not required to have a FileMaker Developer Subscription.  We are embedding the migration tool inside of our application and it is used behind the scenes, but you do not have to purchase it.
