Fill color

in Apple Filemaker how to fill a field with background colour (or white) so that it remains so in preview or final printable version of the document.

In layout, I select the field, choose "fill" in inspector, choose a colour (or white), it shows in browse mode but not in preview or final printable version of the document...

How come..?

P.S. Not sure what the title means, or what this has to do FM Server. Also, it's Filemaker (or rather FileMaker) - not Apple Filemaker.
