Is is anyway to show unindexed values (from a related unindexed calc field)?

There is no direct way. It is the indexing of the field that allows the value list to be created. As to a work around, it's hard to suggest one with no information about you files (low clairvoyance quotent, broken crystal ball, etc. ).

A value list is actually made up of 2 parts. The actual value that is being stuck in the field and a nother field which can be used for additional information.

As long as the field you are sorting by (which can be the first or second field) is stored and indexed then the other field can be unstored. Since it is this sort field which actually defines the value list.
