Mark Appleby Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 At long last I am ready to start using my first prototype of a complex solution. I have about twenty files and a few hundred scripts. In order to start running this I am going to make a clone in a new directory. I know that I will have to save each file as a different name but then do I have to go through each file and change every script? What is the simplest way to do this? A basic question I know but I have never done this before.
The Bridge Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 The easiest, most reliable way to change file names and preserve references in relationships, calculations and scripts is to use the Developer Tool to rename the files in question.
BobWeaver Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 If you're saving the clones in a different directory, they can keep the original file name.
RussBaker Posted August 12, 2002 Posted August 12, 2002 Remember - a cloned file will have all the global fields de-populated... So you will need to have a startup script which sets them to your required starting values. If you're using global container fields for colours, graphics eytc, this can be a pain and you may need to create a "preferences" file where these are stored for lookup on starting your main files. Saving a copy of your files with zero records in them will retain global field contents.
