QR codes and using FileMaker to embed data in image file metadata.

I know that FM can generate QR codes and read the data contained in them. What I am wondering is can it also be made to embed the data in a QR code into the metadata of an image? We photograph school events and need to make the images searchable on our custom shopping cart. We currently create our own QR codes and photograph them, then the student. In Lightroom I have a plugin that reads the code, then adds the data to the specific IPTC field. The problem is that this plugin is no longer developed or supported and while it still works, should it die, I'm stuffed. There are no alternatives that I can find.

So, I am hoping that FM can do this, and if so could someone point me in the right direction. Really need to find a solution before I need it.

Also, I know that there are commercially available school photography platforms for what I am wanting to do, but there are reasons that I can not / do not want to use them.
