E-mail from calculation

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I have developed an application (in Health & Safety) in which users complete a series of radio-buttons through Web Companion. The application then checks the answers and advises the user on action to be taken.

I would like to send automatic e-mails to appropriate people if certain box combinations are checked, but I can't find a way to run an e-mail script from a calculation field. Is this possible?

Cheers, Dave

Triggering scripts directly from calculations is not a native feature of FileMaker Pro.

There are, however, several third-party plug-ins which provide script triggering via external functions (which in some cases can be included in calculations. Options which you might like to consider include SCRIPTit from CNS, Troi Activator from Troi Austomatisering and oAzium Events from Waves In Motion. Each of thse is available as a demo-download, so if you are considering their use, best to confirm that they are working to your requirements before paying the shareware fee.

As you're using Web Companion thenyou can execute a FMP script after the record is submitted.

The host running the script can then perform the necessary actions.

You do not need even scripts for this. WC is sending emails on action see the CDML reference.
