filemaker database uploading to web vs. lasso

I represent a client who used filemaker pro, and the person who setup a database system for them used Lasso. The only thing is that the webhosting is very expensive with pointnspace. My question is

Could not filemaker be used directly to upload to html templates? to change info on the site? Without having to create my own server cannot filemaker upload and use a regular webhost? If not what about switching to something such as PHP..

Any info would be appreciated...
