Local Host is unavailable

Hi,

I am running FileMaker Pro Server 5.5 on a G4 under OS 10.1.5. Everything is working fine for offsite access via TCP/IP, but for local users the Local Host option is blank. In other words the served databases do not show up. Local users seem to only be able to access the server via the Internet. What am I doing wrong? Is this a function of FMP Server 5.5, the OS, or what? Also, I am used to using FMP Server on OS9. On OS X it seems very different. I cannot for the life of me find the old familiar File/Folders/Guests window. Did FileMaker, Inc. remove these vital windows from Server on X or am I missing something?

Thanks for the help,

-Jedi

RE: I am used to using FMP Server on OS9. On OS X it seems very different.

Of course. The Mac X is Unix. The difference between Mac OS and Windows is smaller, than between Mac OS and Mac X.

I'm not running 5.5 on X yet, but here are my test results.

1. Their is no "built in" control interface for FM Server on X. You must use a client version of FMP with the Server Administration plug-in enabled. This was available from 5.0

2. Check the IP addresses for the FMP clients and FM Server, and that they are all still in the same zone

3. Check the "Network" prefs on the X machine - make sure the subnet mask is correct.

Hey,

Thanks for the info. Could you elaborate a bit about using a client version with the admin plugin? I am not sure I follow you. I have never seen an admin plugin as an option.

Thanks

On Windows and possibly on Mac X is administrating plugin on Server CD. You install on client machine just the plugin via Custom install.

Then you can administer some FM server functions from Client.
