ruthcarlton Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 I have a script which is supposed to insert a picture. Go to Field [NoShowPict] - a container field Insert Picture [Reference, "DayOff.jpg] The image is in a sub-directory. It works great on my machine (mac), but it gives an error message about a filter on another machine (PC). What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
LiveOak Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 Make sure the shared volume where the pictures are actually stored is accessible by both the Mac's and PC's. If the path is different for each machine, it might cause a problem. We universally use Troi File to deal with pictures, thumbnails, paths, etc. It is VERY useful if you are going to be including pictures in a network solution of any complexity. Also make sure all the bits of FM are installed, perhaps some translators are missing. -bd
mattlight Posted October 3, 2002 Posted October 3, 2002 Can anyone tell me how to do INSERT picture with a non predefined image name in Filemaker 6? I know that the database itself remains smaller using references because it doesn't contain the picture itself in the DB - which is good. However, in an ideal world I wish to be able to take a snap shot with a digital camera, save it on an Image Library Server in a created client folder and for it all to be done within Filemaker without the use of external software. But - big but - I'm using a PC and not a MAC - I've been told that although Filemaker remains cross platform, certain features have now been restricted to MAC in the latest version! What's that all about? A PC and a MAC can both take instant picture via USB digital camera - so why do they hold back on giving PC users the benefit of a new feature that they put out exclusively for MAC? Must be some kind of pay off with Apple to put off people from using a PC - NOT NICE.
LiveOak Posted October 3, 2002 Posted October 3, 2002 Calm down, not true. If it was they wouldn't have to be paid of by Apple. FileMaker Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Apple Computer. They could be directed to stop release of FM for Wintel TOMORROW! There, have we fostered enough panic based on rumor yet! FM 6 allows the import of images one folder at a time. To set file names or check a folder for new images and import them, you'll need a plug-in. If you are going to deal with images much, you should think about the Troi File plug-in. In addition to file management features (checking that folder for new images, moving and deleting files, etc.) it allow image import and the creation of thumbnails. FMI has 80+% of the Mac database market. Their big growth area is the PC market (where they are the largest purchased, not bundled, player). At present, I think there are more PC only features than Mac only. All such features are dictated by OS capabilities, something FMI can do little about (DDE vs. AppleScript, etc.). -bd
kenneth2k1 Posted October 3, 2002 Posted October 3, 2002 Insert Object, for example. Which I think is extremely useful and they still dont have it on the Mac version (do they?).
