September 25, 200223 yr Hello all, I'd like to give my users the ability to create new layouts, but I don't want them to have access to layout mode of any existing layouts. From what I can tell locking one option means locking both. Is there any way around this? Thanks in advance, Leah
September 25, 200223 yr You can use the Groups and Access Privileges to allow a use to create a new layout, but limit their ability to view fields and the contents of other layouts. -bd

September 30, 200223 yr Author Thanks for sending along the link. I've looked at the database you sent and if I'm not mistaken, it looks like the lesser password gives access to view but not modify information in browse mode or layout mode of a given page. What I would like to do is give the user the ability to create records, browse and modify information on a page, but not have access to the Layout Mode of that page. However, I would like the user to be able to create new Layouts in Layout Mode. Is that possible? Thanks again, Leah
September 30, 200223 yr An alternative is to create a separate file with a relationship back to your existing files and scome scripts which will bring in appropriate key field data, and give your clients layout access in this file, but not in your main files. That way they can make new layouts to their heart's content. 'Lovely' ones with hot pink backgrounds and lime green fields!!. And they can populate them with data from the other files in your solution. But they can't mess with your layouts.
