Popup List Not Going Away After Selection

Hello peers!

I have a popup list attached to a field. The value list is based on values in an indexed field from a related db. I click in the field to bring up the list, but when I select a value, the list will not go away. I have to click in an empty area on the screen in order for it to shink. I have never encountered this before, so am I missing something?

Also, a little background on this project: I am making a solution that will be served. It is sort of a RSVP setup where users log in to our company website and there will be a link which will go to a main file. They will RSVP for upcoming meetings and such. I got the files all ready to go, but this is a new area for me. So I was hoping you all could clear some things up for me (to supplement the copious amount of reading I did in the FM manual, wink wink).

Am I correct to say that with the regular FM 5.5 version I will have to enable the web companion, make it multi-user, open the db on the server machine, and have the remote machines logged on to that server's IP? The regular version also limits me to 10 users a day (and that includes those that log in more than once), right? Isnt there some sort of "switchboard" thing that comes up (I cant remember the real name for it, sorry)?

I am going to give this a shot tomorrow, thanks in advance to all the pros for your helpful insight. Sometimes I feel like I should be paying for this help (but I'm not going to smile.gif )

In my experience, this occurs where:

1. There are no other fields on the layout,

2. All other fields on the layout are excluded from the tab-order,

2. The other fields on the layout are all non-modifiable,

3. The other fields on the layout have "Allow entry into field" disabled.

One way to change its behaviour is to change the conditions listed above.

Another way is to turn off "Alllow entry into field" for the field, then create a script with a "Go To Field [ ]" step and attach it to the field as a button. This will work, but of course will only be mouse driven - you'll lose the ability to tab into the field. smirk.gif

Yes, that will get you on air - within the limits of the desktop web services functionality...

It sounds as though you're hoping to get past the cap on the number of browser sessions by running the db from server, but for that you are going to need 'Unlimited'.

The best set-up will be to run the db under Server, then open it into Unlimited (running as a client to Server) and broadcast to the www from there. That way Server hands all the disk and data I/O, while Unlimited manages the Internet data transfers.

Sometimes I feel like I should be paying for this help (but I'm not going to)

In that case, I take it all back!! smile.gifsmile.gif

OK, Ive tested this setup and it seems to work ok so far. Only I discovered that our company website resides at this IP address so it comes up when the IP is entered. So I am just going to have the web developer make a link to the main file. Will that work, or must you open the file from the instant web publishing screen? Sorry to ask all these questions before trying, but the web designer is not available right now.

Also Ray, with regards to the popup list, you were correct as usual. The other fields on the layout were not setup to take entries.

Thanks alot

Ken
