How to enable FM to send e-mail from a web db?

Featured Replies

Once a user posted a new entry to a database that is served on-line, I want an e-mail notification to be sent to a particular email address.

Associating the Send Mail from the ScriptMaker does not seem to work on the web.

I've read in some previous posts reference to CDML of which I know nothing - I just created the database and turned the web plug-in on. Is there a simple solution to the send-mail that does not require programing? Else, I don;t mind learning, but would appriciate a pointer of where to start...

Thank you,

-Ezra

Ezra,

It's pretty safe to say that if you want to do anything fancy with Filemaker on the web you will have to jump into CDML. I am not a computer scienetist or IT person, but I was able to learn CDML quickly using the examples that came with FMP - in the web tools folder. CDML is just a set of tags that you place in ordinary HTML pages. These tags comminicate with FMP.

As for sending mail, there is a FMP pluggin called SMTPit that works very well for the application you describe.

Take the leap, and good luck.
