Simulated Load Testing

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a method of putting simulated, "worst case scenario" load on the FMP Server?

We are currently planning on increasing the users from 20 to 120 in the next few months. We would like to try to simulate this if possible so we can see if any change in performance will occur. (both by user perspective, and server resources).

We are using Windows NT Server 4.0 with FMP Server 5.0. I believe the server is quite adequate:

Hardware Model = Compaq Proliant 1850R

Processor(s) = (2) Intel Pentium II

Ram = 200 MB

Hard disk(s) = (3) 4.3 MB Physical Disk

Disk Controllers - RAID config = Hardware RAID 5

NIC Model(s) = Compaq Netelligent 10/100 TX Embedded

Network Speed = 100 Mps

Duplex = Full

If there is no way to simulate this without orchestrating a "everyone hit the button now" type load, what function(s) puts the most strain on FMP's overall performance in a multi-user environment?

Query's?

Import's

Exports?

Report Generation that is dependent on heavy calculations?

Other?

If we must we will come up with a combination of the most "heavy" functions and setup a lab with as many computers as possible to hit the server.

In my experience with FM server, the most intensive server loads come from Imports, Exports, and multiple field sorts based on unstored calcuation fields.
