set token using value list

Is there a way to set a token using a value list that's been pulled from a database? (choose the value of the token from a drop down menu)

I want to do this all via a form before processing. I don't want to pull the token from an already created field value.

(the ultimate goal is to be able to edit 2 different records in 2 different databases with one form. I'm trying to use inlines, which I've never done before. Alternative suggestions welcome smile.gif )

As an alternative to inlines I strongly recommend scripts.
