Hello,

Probably get this note here a lot, but was wondering if there's a tool that would allow me to write the script that I want in text format, and then have it automatically imported into Script format?

I have about 100+ files that I need to import into one file, and I am getting tired of having to constantly use the mouse.

Thanks!

Not that I know of. Many years ago Denny Hayes wrote a app in Frontier (Mac, like Quickeys) to make the transitions. Very complex problem. Scripts aren't stored as text inside FM.

Depending upon what type the 100+ files are (tab text?), you may be able to use a plug-in such as Troi File to make a list of the files, take a file from the list, rename it, perform an import, rename it again, and move to the next file without having to change the script for each file name.

Thanks for your reply.

I have one main FileMaker Pro file that needs to contain all the data generated from other FileMaker Pro files. I inherited a database where each record was saved in a different file, and my job is to try to consolidate everything into one file.

My idea was that from the main file that I'm using to consolidate the records, make a script that has an Import step from each of the files, and then do them en masse.

If there's an easier way, I'd love to hear about it!

I heard someone once also mentioning that there was a windows automation tool that would automatically create all these, but I forgot what it was called now.

If all 100 files have the same structure, the looping script using Troi File might work. Capture a list of files, take the first, rename the FM file, perform the import, rename the FM file to its original name, take the next, etc. Just setup the import script for a single default file name. If all 100 files have different structures... well, I hope you are being paid by the hour.
